hi,

(I hope I've got the subject right)

I like to thank everybody who helped me to configure the resolution of my
videocard.

Yesterday, I've finally made time to try all the tips I received and it
worked.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,

I got my monitor specs. from:
http://ms.ha.md.us/~hawks/hardware/monitor.html
and I edited XF86Config.
It suddenly seemed somehow logical to me.

I rebooted and, (800x600 and) IT LOOKS GREAT!!!

Finally a desktop environment that is pleasant to look at.

I can imagine that editing the XF86Config isn't that big of an issue for all
of the users that are on this list.
But it's a giant leap for me, since I now understand the mechanics of Linux
a little bit better.

The only drawback is that I somehow lost all of the items on my desktop and
when I shutdown or reboot I get a lot of NNNN's on my screen.

Although I don't know everything i can imangine that those NNNN's aren't
supposed to appear.
Who knows what causes this? Is it something I have done wrong?

I only put "800x600" in front of whatever resolution was there in the
XF86Config file.

And how did I lose the Icons?

I know it's a lot of information in one mail, and it's pretty shaken and
stirred, but could anyone please give me hint of what has gone wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Remon
