I can't imagine what you're talking about here...

I did a fresh install of 5.2 in Jan 1999, then did an upgrade to 6.2
on top of that in may 2000. It's what I'm running now, in fact.

The upgrade went with no hitches.

As always there are a few packages I've installed myself which are
sensitive to kernel revision that need to be rebuilt, and a few places
where a config file needs to be tweaked. These are NOT unusual with an
in-place upgrade.

What the OP doesn't seem to be telling us is WHAT IT IS THAT WENT WRONG
and which REQUIRES a reinstall to avoid?
