Try "reboot" instead.

Subject: Restarting a Linux Box

How do you properly restart a Linux box? I use the command 'shutdown
-r now'. But, when I do that, while it is restarting, it tells me
that the volumes were not properly unmounted, and it does a scan of
them. How do I stop this in the future?

Thanks,
Jeff
