Could be a hardware issue. I remember having fierce trouble with a 486
once when I tried to swap the Intel 486DX2/66 for an ST486DX4/100 - in
the end it was all down to some wrong jumper settings on the board. So,
one of the first things I'd check is that the board is set up properly
for that CPU.
