There was a similar problem mentioned on list recently the resulting
error turned out to be the premissions on su itself didn't have the SUID bit
set. Which in turn wouldn't allow the user to read the shadow passwd file
and ergo 'incorrect password'. Go make sure there's an 's' in the
permissions of su.
