I'm having some trouble getting sound to work properly on my laptop (Dell Inspiron
3200). I recently upgraded from RH6.2 to 7.0, but this problem actually predates the
upgrade -- I think it started with the last round of RH6.2 updates that I installed,
but it continues with RH 7.0

Here's the symptoms: if I try to play an mp3 file (with xmms in X, or mpg123 at the
command line) the sound stutters and repeats, like this:

thi-thi-thi-thi-thi-thi-thi-sucks-sucks-sucks-sucks-sucks-sucks-bad-bad-bad-bad-bad-bad-bad-bad

I was getting this error in my 'messages' log:

modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module sound-service-0-0

so I put this line in /etc/modules.conf:

alias sound-service-0-0 cs4232

This got rid of the error message in the log, but it didn't fix my sound problem.

I can get sound to work properly by doing:

rmmod cs4232
insmod cs4232

and I suppose I could get around the problem by putting these two lines into my
rc.local file.

But I'd prefer to know what is causing the problem, so I can fix it properly.

Can anyone help with this??
