I have just installed Redhat 7.0 on one of my machines. I am having
problems getting linuxconf to work using a web browser ( I know this isn't
really secure and I normally have it turned off, but the fact that I cannot
get it to work is driving me crazy). I have a 6.1 system as well and that
one works fine. Here is what I have done so far:
I have enabled web access (using linuxconf from X windows) on both machines.
I have ran nmap on both machines and both have port 98 open.
I have verified that there are no packet filtering rules blocking port 98
(for testing purposes only)
I have compared the inetd.conf (6.1 system) file with the new xinetd conf
file (7.0 system) for linuxconf and it looks ok.
Like I said, the 6.1 machine works fine. The 7.0 machine does not. I do,
however, see in the log files that xinetd is starting linuxconf --http when
attempting to connect via a web browser but is doesn't keep running. It
immediately terminates. And the message I get on the Netscape browser on the
7.0 machine is that the connection has been reset by peer. I've tried using
the localhost address, as well as the real ip address.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks!
- Cory
