In section 1.2.2, mentioned are FMS (the Fortran Monitor System) and IBSYS
(IBM's operating system) for the IBM 7094. This was sometime between 1955
and 1965 (as says the book).
You're talking OS as the ones run by the computer to run stuff on the
computer, right? otherwise people were the first OS (back in the days of
those really really really big machines that filled entire rooms) :)
