Cant login as root RH6.0

I remember seeing this solved a long time ago. Due to a HD failure, I had
to re-install on the repaired machine, and after completion, it wont
let me logon as root. Password was put in and the check agreed to it, and
I know what I typed.
Could someone advise me before I have to re-install (if that helps).
