Right-click on the desktop and select New->Launcher. Edit the dialog to add
the following entries:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=Pine
Comment=character-mode mail reader
Exec=xterm -e pine
Icon=/usr/share/pixmaps/gnome-mailcheck.png
Terminal=false
MultipleArgs=false
Type=Application
Or just save the above text as ~/.gnome-desktop/Pine.desktop.
