My mrtg runs from cron every five or ten minutes, and does not use an init
script. I use the RedHat-supplied mrtg (from the powertools CD) and it has
upgraded seamlessly from 6.2 to 7.0.
You appear to be using a self-built mrtg in /usr/local. There are a number
of reasons why it might have failed. It might simply be failing to run
because dynamic libraries have changed, in which case a re-compile might
suffice. Whatever the cause, though, since you aren't using RedHat's build
it would be hard to know exactly how your mrtg is configured and why it is
failing without more information. I recommend you try running
/usr/local/mrtg-2/bin/mrtg manually and that you check your configuration
/usr/local/mrtg-2/conf/mrtg.cfg. You might also get better suppoirt from
the mrtg mailing list.
