Hi all,

I recently upgraded my cdrecord from version 1.8 to 1.9. After having done
so, whenever I ran cdrecord -scanbus, it hung the entire computer (keyboard,
mouse, video, etc.) I was able to get things to work again by downloading a
special version of the generic scsi device from the cdrecord website and
recompiling the kernel/modules. Note that this was not a suggestion on the
part of the cdrecord website, they happened to have a link to the sg source
that they claimed was a better match, so I took the chance and used that
version.

My question is this:
Is this a normal sort of thing to have to do, or did I miss some simpler
solution (my background is nt, not linux)?

caveat: this is not a redhat specific question.

The platform:
Caldera OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4
Linux Kernel 2.2.14
Kde 1 & 2.0.1
Helix Gnome (Day before yesterday)
cdrecord 1.9

Intel Pentium 200 MMX
128 MB Ram
Adaptec 1542
Ricoh 1420C with 512K Cache
