Hi everybody,
I've got a rather obscure question tonight, however, I'm hoping someone can
help.
Here at home I get online (DSL) via the Roaring Penguin software (rp-pppoe)
from the 7.0 cdrom. However, at work we have a cable RH 6.2 server which
assigns IP addresses via DHCP.
So, here's my problem, when I first got to work this week with my new laptop
I couldn't get an IP from the server. After foolin around a bit I put a
simple file/script in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/
* ifcfg-eth0*
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=dhcp
ONBOOT=yes
This file did allow me to surf the net. But it delayed starting eth0 because
my pcmcia had not started yet. So I was surfing the net at this point.
Although I still was not able to ping the internal server for whatever
reason.
Now comes the real problem, when I tried to get online (rp-pppoe) lastnight
with the laptop I could not surf from home. The machine would get connected
fine and I could ping IP addresses however it did hang for a short while
maybe 15-20 seconds and then would start relaying the results back to me
just fine. I was unable to get on to any web or ftp sites would just
timeout. Giving 'Unknownhost' error.
I have to admit I'm at a loss tonight gonna try fooling around now to get it
online but I really don't know where to start mostly because it will
connect!?! So I'm not sure what to do... : (
Any suggestions to any of my problems would be much appreciated.
Thnx
CM
