$PATH is set in /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit during boot time.

The default profile is called when you login -- adding the /usr/X11R6/bin to
$PATH.

What shows up when you do 'echo $PATH' from the CLI?  That should show you
what your PATH is set to.
