Since I recently upgraded from RH 6.1 to 7.0 I have run into problems in
mounting filesystems on peripheral devices.
Here some diagnostics:

>mount -t vfat /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
mount: /dev/fd0 has wrong major or minor number

>ls -l /dev/fd0
brw-rw---- 1 fred floppy 2, 0 Aug 24 2000 /dev/fd0

My zip drive is hdc, and the disk had previously been formatted as ext2
on hdc1:

>mount -t ext2 /dev/hdc1 /mnt/zip
mount: /dev/hdc1 is not a valid block device

ls -l /dev/hdc1
brw-rw---- 1 root disk 22, 1 Aug 24 2000 /dev/hdc1

>fdisk /dev/hdc
Unable to open /dev/hdc

Any suggestions?

with thanks
