Just Recently my redhat machine hangs for several minutes at two points in the startup procedure.

The first point is when it tries to start the system logger.

After a couple of minutes it starts that and continues on until it hangs again starting sendmail.

When that is finally started I log on and check the processes and nothing is chewing up all the cpu.

I can run some things with no problems (eg. starting a ppp session). When I try to run x windows, It just doesn't start up.

I've checked the system log and the only problems when starting up are configuration issues with the named service. However, I look back and that has been happening for quite some time without problems.

The last thing I was working on before I had this problem was changing configuration files to ensure that my ethernet interface was started when loading the system and I changed my default route to be through my ethernet interface, as I am experimenting with IP Masquerading on another box. However, I vaguely remembering the machine rebooting properly after those changes.

I am running Redhat 6.5 (I think) Anyway, the last major release before version 7.

Please excuse my ignorance, I am relatively new to Redhat.

Regards,
