Tons of mail incoming suggestion please

I have a friend that get a ton of mail and sendmail had problem with
openfile..........then, I installed postfix and no problem with openfile but now there
is a lot of mail in the mailq........seems it grows everyday. It's running a scsi IBM
18 GIG drive which is not the greatest but ...works ok. I read that postfix will put
mail in mailq if the drive is slow.......but's
it's a scsi !! Any suggestion would be appriciated on how to make this server
accepting all this email since it's a mail server for search engine submissions.
THANKS,
REMO
