After installing, I am unable to get Backspace working
properly. I have read through documentation on the
LDP but when I try this

xmodmap -e "keysym BackSpace = Delete" -e "keysym
Delete = BackSpace"

I get this error

xmodmap: commandline:0: bad keysym target keysym
'BackSpace', no corresponding keycodes
xmodmap: 1 error encountered, aborting.

Backspace works on the console, but not in X.

stty -a gives me ^? for erase. I have tried changing
it to ^H, but this has no effect in X.

showkey gives kb mode was XLate
and 14 for backspace, 111 for delete when I use
showkey in the Console. I am unable to get what
showkey generates in X because I get this message.

 kb mode was RAW
[ if you are trying this under X, it might not work
since the X server is also reading /dev/console ]

I am about to give up and try to fix it some other
time, but I would really like to get this working
sooner rather than later.

Thanks in advance

Ian
