Hi folks,
quick question for ye CD-RW experts: I just got a YAMAHA CRW8824S SCSI CD-RW
Drive and was experimenting with it over the weekend on my RHL 6.2 system.
I read the CD-Writing HOWTO and stumbled into a small(?) obstacle when
running "cdrecord -scanbus".
Upon running that command, I get a correct table with my SCSI HDs and the RW
drive, but my console shows: "Can't locate module char-major-97"
A Google and a list archive search revealed, that "char-major-97" refers to
the generic parallel port device (pg) and several people seemingly use
alias char-major-97 pg
in their conf.modules. However, I have not found any explanation as to *why*
one needs to set up the "generic parallel port device" to use a *SCSI*
CD-Writer, nor could I verifiy that this step is indeed necessary.
I ran a few more tests (short of trying to burn my first CD) - cdrecord
retrieves and displays all information it can get from the drive just fine
and I can access the drive as CD-ROM no problem. Hence, my question in short
form:
What's this "char-major-97" business all about and do I indeed need to worry
about it or can I safely ignore the error message?
Thanks in advance,
Thomas
