Hi,

I just set up a Red Hat 7.0 machine. It's on an NIS domain with several
other Red Hat machines. The problem with this new machine is that I
can't telnet or ftp into it, even from the machine itself. ypbind is
running, and I can telnet, ftp, ping all of the other machines from this
new machine. I can also log in to this new machine from the xdm login
window. But from an xterm, I can't telnet to itself, either by name or
IP address. I get the error:

telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

portmap and ypbind are running. But when I restart xinetd and check the
status, I see:

xinetd dead but pid file exists

Could this be why I can't telnet to the localhost? This is the
/etc/hosts.allow on this machine:

in.telnetd: ALL
in.ftpd: ALL

ALL: 192.168.230.
ALL: 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.0

What else can I check to allow access to this machine? Thanks,

Hidong
