Yeah, I finally got through using IE from a Win98 box. Not sure what
the issue with Galeon/Mozilla 0.8 is with that cgi.

Anyway, last night I plugged an ethernet cable into the printer and
disconnected the parallel cable - then put a NIC into promiscuous mode
and started up tethereal. Sure enough, the printer is there babbling
away to the net - but it's speaking IPX, asking for the nearest server.

Looking through the IPX section of the _Linux Network Administrator's
Guide_, it seemed like it would be pretty simple to set up an IPX
gateway on one of my machines, and have that machine act as a print
server for the rest of the LAN. This would allow me to put the printer
anywhere on the network without worrying about having a box right next
to it - the Pagemarq printers are quite large so it needs to be off by
itself somewhere.

If anyone on the list has some IPX experience, pointers would be
helpful. I have two questions now:

At first glance, a question not clearly addressed in any of my
references is whether or not I can have a single NIC configured to
send/receive 'normal' TCP/IP traffic and IPX traffic *at the same time*.
The books imply that this is possible, but do not explicitly say it
anywhere.

Secondly, I can't get the IPX source code from Caldera to compile. Are
there special tricks to get IPX on RedHat (a certain set of rpms to
install, etc.)?

Cheers,

James
