It is hard to do a good memory test when the OS is running.  I preferrer
to run memtest86 - it is a stand alone program that tests all of the
memory.  (It relocates itself.)  It is the becomming the standard memory
test software for the Linux comunity.  Do a search for it on
freshmeat.net.
