Try installing the new kernel again. The fact that "rpm --rebuilddb"
took a long time, and didn't generate an error message is a good thing.
Hopefully RPM cleaned up its database, and will now work right. There
were some warnings in the anouncement about the RPM upgrade about
running --rebuilddb before and after the upgrade.

Also, make sure you use rom -ivh, and not rpm -Uvh when upgradig the
kernel. This is covered in the kernel upgrading instructions on the
Red Hat web site. (One of these days I am going to make a note of the
URL for it...)

Please post to the list if the problem is solved, or if you need more
help. This problem when upgrading to the new version of RPM, and
possible fixes for it are being talked about on the rpm list, but if
--rebuilddb doesn't work, there is not real good way to fix it.
