It's a bit more complicated than just creating a username and password. I'm assuming that you're using OpenLDAP, so I'd recommend reading the documentation available at their web site (not much) and then searching Google for LDAP HOWTOs and tutorials. If you are still puzzled, buy a good OpenLDAP book.
