I think (though I am not sure) that Kconquerer can use anti-aliased 
fonts. And am pretty sure Netscape cannot. Since you said the "fonts 
seem different", I am assuming the difference is a small one like the 
difference between plain old TrueType and anti-aliased TrueType.

I assume your talking about NS4.x
If so the simple answer is NS4.x handling of most display related things
sucks

Have you checked mozilla (ie NS6.x)
