Thanks to all who responded to my request for info on how to set XFCE as my default desktop. It seems that there is more than one way to do it. After considering the various possibilities, this is the one that I decided on:
Create a hidden file in my home directory named .xinitrc containing a a single line saying "startxfce". It is, of course, necessary to first log out and then log back in before the change takes effect. regards to all, Robert Storey On Monday 03 December 2001 02:30 am, you wrote: > Hi All, > > I'm new to Redhat, though I've been using SuSE > for the past two years. > > Rather than Gnome or KDE, my desktop of choice is > XFCE (it's superfast - if you'd like to try it, > it's on the Redhat Powertools CD). > > My problem - I can't seem to make XFCE the > default desktop.
