I think so.  He wants to remove the "D: partition", which is either a 
second primary or a logical within an extended.  Either way, you can 
blast that partition during install and then use it, without 
disturbing hda1.  Whether that's a problem depends on whether his 
Windows installation is using D:, but his message suggests that it 
isn't.
