we got the same problem (unexpected freeze then a need to hard reboot)
and took the same way to solve it (move back from ext3 to ext2)

at this time i do not consider ext3 as reliable (well, i'd say, the
combination of ext3 and rh72, and maybe some other things like hardware...)
