You know, I thought exactly the same thing as I was typing that. :)
I did look for a way to do it via the various .kde rc files, by the way.
I stumbled upon the check box before I found the rc file, if it exists.

I like KDE, but..
It is getting too big and bloated. I've disabled most of the eye candy; 
not because it slows my machine at all, but because I found it annoying 
and windows like. I also removed the autostart desktop entry, the control 
panel icon as well as the exceptionally annoying floppy and cdrom icons.

I will however say that I have had kde sessions up and running for months 
at a time. Never once have I been forced to (perish the thought) reboot, 
or kill my Xsession. I've never seen a blue screen of death either. :)

As a matter of fact, KDE had been running for several weeks until the ice 
storm last Friday that felled the tree, that landed on the house, that 
tore the overhead utility lines from said house, that fried the UPS.... 
But I digress. Friday was a bad day. :)
