Running RH7.2 with all current updates from RHN. Pulled down the 2.4.9-31 update using up2date, but when I tried the new kernel, it failed to boot. After selecting the new kernel in grub, I got this:
Booting 'Redhat Linux (2.4.9-31)' root(hd0,1) Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83 Kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.9-31 ro root=/dev/hda3 hdd=ide-scsi idebus=66 mem=512M [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1400, size=0xecaff] initrd /initrd-2.4.9-31.img [Linux-init @ 0x1ff5f000, 0x5089c bytes] Uncompressing Linux.. Ok, booting the kernel. At this point, my system (Dell Dimension 4100 w/PIII Coppermine 733MHz; 512M memory; 60GB -100 ATA drive) hangs and requires a power off to restart. The old kernel (2.4.9-21) boots fine with same kernel parameters. It also boots Win98 fine. So it's probably not the hardware. Only strange bit is that I'm using the Ext3 filesystem, but the stuff above reported it as a Ext2. I've updated this on two systems at work without a problem, but the hardware was very different. _______________________________________________ Redhat-list mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
