After a couple of suggestions I looked at the log again.

I just checked the some of the SRC ip's and one SRC(140.221.8.88) and
received the following reply:
88.8.221.140.in-addr.arpa. domain name pointer ntp0.mcs.anl.gov

Another SRC is 128.118.25.3. I received the following reply using host
cmd.
3.25.118.128.in-addr.arpa. domain name pointer otc2.psu.edu.

I realized that these are ntp sites. In my ntp.conf file I reference
both of those sites as server ip addresses to get the time. Although it
seems to check a bit too frequent.

I also have the following command in the file:
logconfig =syncevents +peerevents +sysevents +allclock

Is this logconfig over kill?

Also I have not changed my ntp.conf file in months, including the
logconfig command in ntp.conf. Yet it has only gone spastic in the past
week.
