A couple of things, though: (1) The gcc3 RPMs have been updated, so get the new ones with up2date or ftp from updates.redhat.com or mirror. (2) You probably don't want to use gcc3 for kernel or other system stuff at this point. gcc 2.95, 2.96, 3.0, and the future 3.1 are all not binary compatible with each other, at least from the C++ perspective. (3) It's a bit surprising that source errors go down when you move to gcc3.
