I just got an Inspiron 8100 with UXGA screen (really nice). I'd like to
make a dual-boot machine with Windows and 7.2 with a suspend-to-disk (s2d)
partition.

The machine comes with XP ;-( on NTFS consuming 3.6Gb. I'm ready to trash
all that and re-install but have a few questions with which I hope some more
experienced readers can advise me on:

1) Fdisk show a 31 Mb partition, and a 28 Gb NTFS partition. What's the 31
Mb partition used for, and can I safely trash it?

2) There's not a lot of documentation on howto install and use the s2d
partition. I gather that I have to create a 570 Mb primary partition, then
get the rh7s2d.exe download from Dell. Then if I want to install LILO or
grub, I can't install it on the MBR. OK, then how does it work?

3) I've heard conflicting reports on how well s2d works with Linux - does
it? I have to admit that with XP, it seems pretty handy to be able to
restore rather than having to reboot.

Thanks for any info!

Jim
