after upgrading from RH 7.2 to RH 7.3 the kernel that comes in
kernel-2.4.18-4 RPM package fails to boot. i get the following messages on
the console:

pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 224k freed
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
Grub is configured to pass 'init=/sbin/init' to the kernel. with custom
built 2.4.16 kernel the system boots without problems. does anyone know
what's going wrong?
