this is linux there can be if you want. put this in ~/.bashrc alias MURDER='kill -9' Not sure it is your problem though if your cd is /mnt/cdrom mounted on /dev/cdrom that is probably a symlink to the actual device (on my system /dev/hdc) eject should unmount it unless there is something using it. make sure that you don't have a term sitting in that dir as the cwd or a gui file manager with that as the current dir.
