When the boot screen says to press I for interactive startup... do so. :-)
Then just don't start sendmail.  When you get to a prompt log in as normal
and then track down just how big that sendmail file is.  If you have to
rename the S80sendmail file in /etc/rc.d/rc3.d to K80sendmail.  (or make the
rc3.d rc5.d if you have a graphical boot.)
