Dear list and networking gooroos!
I am experiencing a very strange behavior since Monday
on a RedHat 6.2 with two NICs.
eth0 is the interface for the 192.168.x.x -Lan
eth1 is the interface connected to the DSL router.
Since one year I establish the link to the DSLserver with:
pump -d -i eth1 -h www.cantv.net
Masquerading worked just superb.
- Till Monday ...
Since than, I have to deactivate eth0 in oder to
sucessfully establish the connection with eth1 to
the DSL-server, and vice versa.
In other words:
If eth0 or eth1 are up staticly bound to an IP,
the machine is not able to obtain itīs IP form the DSL-server.
both NICs are recognized by the kernel (sure they are,
as it had worked for a year)
####extract from dmesg:
ne2k-pci.c:vpre-1.00e 5/27/99 D. Becker/P. Gortmaker

I would like to show the ifcgs:
#ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
IPADDR=192.168.17.1
NETMASK=255.255.255.0
ONBOOT=yes
BROADCAST=192.168.17.255
NETWORK=192.168.17.0
USERCTRL=no
#ifcfg-eth1
DEVICE=eth1
BOOTPROTO=dhcp(none, in case of using pump)
IPADDR=
NETMASK=
ONBOOT=no
BROADCAST=
NETWORK=
USERCTRL=no
The box was not touched for weeks, so we can exclude
that there ware done any modifications.
Did the daemons get angry with me??
I hope somebody could bring some light into this $%&Ž/!!?.
Thousand thanks in advance
