Thank you for your responses.

After issuing 'lsmod' I am not sure if I see LVM loaded, unless it is
showing up as 'raid0'(below).

# /sbin/lsmod

raid0                   4320   1

It does appears in /lib/modules.

# locate lvm | grep modules

/lib/modules/2.4.18-3/kernel/drivers/md/lvm-mod.o

Do I need to recompile the kernel or is LVM running?

Thank you,

If the kernel source package is installed:
$ grep -i lvm /usr/src/linux-2.4/configs/kernel-2.4.18-i386.config

# Multi-device support (RAID and LVM)
CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LVM=m
CONFIG_LVM_PROC_FS=m
CONFIG_EVMS_LVM_PLUGIN=m

Failing that, look for the module. ;)
$ locate lvm | grep modules
/lib/modules/2.4.18-4/kernel/drivers/md/lvm-mod.o
/lib/modules/2.4.18-5/kernel/drivers/md/lvm-mod.o
