List,
        Off topic warning here.
My Windows 2000 Server (cost: $800) can't read its RSA encryption keys
anymore and the web server process cannot start. The M$ support page
had a hotfix that I had to telephone support for (but was free). So I
called (at 0000h) was on the telephone until 0200h. The hotfix was
pulled and nolonger avaiable. So now I had to pay $250 for support to
fix this issue. This (private) web server has been down for 3 days (so
far) and the M$ guys are saying "This is wierd", "I don't understand
whats happening", "We need to analyse more logs". The machine was
running for 3 months with no reboot, or anything...just all of a sudden
couldn't do RSA anymore. So for those who are keeping track:

$800 for server software
$250 for support when it has a bug
$  0 for firewall (RedHat 7.2/iptables)
$??? for my (IT Director) time (this is a big number)
        (replace ??? with your salary for three days)
$??? for my stress (this is a big number)
        (replace ??? with how much stress affects your employees)
$??? for three days of downtime (this is a big number)

M$ lowering TCO?  my ass!

For the record (my Linux stuff)
$ 0 for Hardare (was going to throw away)
$ 0 for Network services (DHCP/DNS/etc) provided by RH7.2 machine
$??? for my time (same as above)
$ 0 for for stress (cause there is none!!)
$ 0 for support cause it's provided by this community in this list.
$  0 for 0 days of downtime

See the pattern?
Sorry to SPAM. Just stressed out rambling...thanks for listening

/B
