Ext2 and ext3 will support >2GB files if large file support is in the
kernel and filesystem tools.  I believe Red Hat has provided large file
support in the kernel and fstools since release 7.2

Try using a different file system, such as XFS or JFS. Ext2 and ext3
only 
support file sizes of less than 2GB.
