I just asked this question not too long ago. The easiest thing to use is probably minicom, which runs from the CLI or in a terminal window. You'll need to run it once as root with the -s switch and set default configurations. You may also want to change the modem init & reset strings to ^M to avoid sending a bunch of garbage to your Cisco.
