I am having an issue with Lock Terminal. I was able to use it intermittently
in RH7.3, but not at all under 8. Has anyone else come across this issue. As a
sysadmin, I prefer to lock my terminal should I go get a coffee or nature
break. Forgive me if this has been answered but I am finally getting to use my
RHCE and started a job where everything is Linux. Up until now I had to
{{{shudder}}}} adminster Windows. I always locked the workstation when I left.
I need to be able to do that here.
Oh, and a personal comment on the new Blue whatever interface. For a neophyte,
it is a very clean basic interface that provides links to common programs.
However, try installing Open Office. Under KDE the icons were automatically
installed on the desktop, quick and easy. I know OO loaded, but there are no
links on the desktop. I will have to create them myself. I know how to do it,
so that is not the problem, I am more reflecting back to that neophyte who
installed Bluewhatever. His desktop looks pretty, but if he wants to use any
other program other than what is installed, he may have his work cut out for
him. Linus said at the conference four years ago he wanted to be easy enough
for his grandmother to install and get some kid games going for the kids.
Well grandma is not going to install OO on this box. Hey grandma, no problem
download the source, untar it, go into the directory, type ./configure, make,
make install. Easy. Huh! I think that as far as neophytes go, Windows has the
edge. I think this new interface while pretty only muddies the water, and it
should not be listed on the menu as KDE or Gnome, it is neither. I choose KDE,
and expect to see KDE and get Bluewhatever, I choose Gnome figuring KDE was
overwritten and I get Bluewhatever. So much for choice. Now where is that copy
of Suse.
