Hello Willem (and all),

Thanks for your advice, but the bad news is that I'm already running the
SMP kernel, that is the strange part:

[root@streamer /root]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Linux release 7.1 (Seawolf)

[root@streamer /root]# uname -a
Linux streamer.et.telecom.com.ar 2.4.18-17.7.xsmp #1 SMP Tue Oct 8 12:37:04 EDT 2002
i686 unknown

[root@streamer /root]# rpm -qa | grep kernel
kernel-headers-2.4.9-34
kernel-smp-2.4.18-17.7.x
kernel-smp-2.4.2-2
kernel-2.4.2-2
kernel-2.4.9-34
kernel-2.4.18-17.7.x
kernel-doc-2.4.18-17.7.x
kernel-source-2.4.18-17.7.x
kernel-smp-2.4.9-34

[root@streamer /root]# cat /etc/lilo.conf
boot=/dev/sda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
message=/boot/message
linear
default=linux

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.9-34smp
        label=linux.bak
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.9-34smp.img
        read-only
        root=/dev/sda2

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2
        label=linux-smp
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.2-2.img
        append="nousb"
        read-only
        root=/dev/sda2

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-17.7.x
        label=linux-up
        root=/dev/sda2
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.18-17.7.x.img

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-17.7.xsmp
        label=linux
        root=/dev/sda2
        read-only
        initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.18-17.7.xsmp.img

As you may infer by reading at my lilo.conf, I'm struggling with this one since some
time ago... :)

Thanks again, I appreciate your help
cl.

I seem to recall having to install the smp rpm by hand on an ibm netfinity
box when installing 7.1.
Then one has to change lilo.conf and rerun lilo to load the correct
kernel.
Then do dmesg to see if it worked.
