Non related Linux problem

Hours of searching is driving me insane and other students haven't had n e luck as well!! :(     here is the problem: A laptop running os/2 version 3 having problem with HP Deskjet 1600c printer.    The first print request aftter start-up is successful, but every subsequent print job fails.  After each reboot the problem will reoccur again with first print job successful with endless errors.  No error message has been prompted.. just lack of actual print out.   Printer drivers have been deleted and reinstalled with Recent Printer drivers downloaded and even a new parallel cable with no luck still.   Again if n e one can help, please get back to me ASAP!   Thanks again   Joe
