Did you try the Xconfigurator?
You need to configure your display settings with the command and then try startx.

would you happen to know how to boot x windows because
i am new to linux so i booted into text mode to see
what there was and i cant get out of it. i tried to do
startx and that took me to a black screen and did
nothing. if you could please help me that would be
great.
