I have a redhat linux box running 7.3 and the home directories are on an SGI
origin running 6.5.15.

When I issue a cp command to copy a 650k file from the linux workstation to
the home directory on the sgi, it take 9 minutes.

When I copy the same file from the SGI to the linux workstation it takes
less than 30 seconds.

Here are the details

Linux and sgi server are on different subnets.
SGI server is running 100baseT -full duplex
Linux workstation is running 10baseT- Half duplex. (wiring
restriction)
It doesn't seem to be the router, as I can copy the same file to a
LINUX server running 100baseT-FD on the sgi subnet in less than 30 sec.

The linux has an onboard intel ethernet express 100 card. (I have tried
this on two identical linux machines and have had the same result, so I
don't think it is the card.)

I have tried both automounting and hard mounting the home directories and it
doesn't seem to make any difference.

Here is the weird thing. If I "ftp" the file from the linux workstation to
the sgi server, it takes also less than 30 seconds.

Independant of these tests, I have run tests copying 2.5 gb file from a
linux server (100baset-fd) to an hp server (100baset-fd) and it took less
than 9 minutes.
