OK - when it does this, what does 'free' show in terms of memory? Are
you actually out of memory?
I had this for a very short while when I added more modems to a
PPP Server machine with only 16MB RAM (which was also doing a heap of
other things.
The problem was exacerbated by using VJ compression, and disabling that
temporarily allowed things to run until more RAM was put in.
