Hello,
I installed RedHat5 3 weeks ago (and wiped and reinstalled many times).
I have not had any luck at all getting my modem(s) to work.

    On computer-1 I have:
a Diamond Supra Express 56i (internal 56Flex)
S3 video card
ISA PnP NE2000 NIC.
(My Asus Motherboard has an Award PnP Bios and I'm unsure if all this PnP
stuff isn't a big conflict.) The RedHat installation autoprobed the NE2000
card and it's worked fine, along with the S3.

    On computer-2, I have:
a 3Com 3c509 in ISA mode
a SB16 sound card
an ET6000 video card
A Gateway TelepathII (Win95 reports it as a USR Sportster Voice 33.6 Fax
Internal)--not a winmodem
(This motherboard has PnP Award Bios also)

I have read man's, howto's, newsgroups, and web pages for 3 weeks, but
this isn't making any sense. Both of these machines dual boot Win98, but I
use Lilo and System Commander. I guess I just want to know that one of these
modems will work, or not. I hate using a NAT program in Windows for the
Linux machines to see the Internet, when I would like to do the reverse.
The Redhat pages say that PnP modems are unsupported. Is this out of
date or can you actually get a new modem that is not PnP? Are external
modems a better choice?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance from a new
Linux convert.
    Sincerely,
    Steven D Boozer
