Hi I'm running a redhat-5.0 system and trying to use ppp to connect to my
ISP. Using the netcfg tool and some playing with the scripts, my box
will successfully:

Dial my ISP.
Start ppp.
Complete PAP Auth.

at this point the kernel level ppp-debug information will report that is
successfully querying packets over and over again unitl I kill -9 the
pppd process.

The device ppp0 is registered in /proc/net/dev but ifconfig revaels
nothing and the logs don't even mention LCP or packet types except for
figuring the MRU and MTU before the kernel links the ppp0 device to
/dev/modem. I know my ISP does not use MS-PAP and I know they do not use
CHAP. I've even looked at other people's connect scripts and found they
were doing the same thing.

I have the most recent .rpm of pppd (2.2.3 I belive, I'm at work and can't
remember exactly) taken from the updates directory at ftp.redhat.com

Anyone have any suggestions?

ps.. PPP is compiled into the kernel (2.0.31) and ipv4 forwarding is on.
