to my surprise the (external) dynalink isdn ta is128ae+ which I've bought today doesn't work out of the box on my linux machine. I had no problems with the usr external i-modem or a generic 28.8k modem. I have set ppp 'debug on' and included the relevant message part in this mail. I did #seyon & and atdt"isp-number" to see which string I have to expect.. the string was 'CONNECT', the same string my chat script is expecting. to rule out the possibility of a defective modem I have tested it with winnt. it worked with winnt. I have copied the modem string in the nt's modem.inf file and applied it to my chat script.. still it will not work on linux. but, I may have located the problem. I have noticed that when I try to establish a ppp link (as root) the is128ae+ will not dial out, 'chat' will never receives the expected 'CONNECT' string and aborts with an error message. still I don't know how to solve this problem. your help will be appreciated !.
